Mayflower Bocawina National Park is found in the southern district of Stann Creek, Belize. It is situated about 17 miles away from Dangriga and 12 miles from the Garifuna village of Hopkins. This stunning park was established as a national park in 2001, and it offers over 7000 acres of pristine tropical rainforest, waterfalls, and ancient Mayan City. The park is generally visited by people who are interested in active jungle exploration tours. It boasts the longest canopy zip-line course in Central America and has three waterfall rappelling sites. Visitors can also enjoy other rainforest adventures, including exploring mountains, hiking trails, swimming holes, and Maya archeological remains.

Spotting wildlife is also popular, with over 200 species of birds recorded, and pumas, jaguars, howler monkeys, tapirs, spider monkeys, ocelots, pacas, and armadillos seen. The Bocawina Rainforest Resort is an eco-friendly lodge that obtains its energy from solar panels and hydro. It provides jungle accommodations and adventure tours and has a restaurant that serves Belizean meals as well as international cuisine. Although mostly undeveloped, the park has a designated camping area located behind its visitor center. It is limited to tent campers, and guests can use amenities such as toilets and water during the visitor center’s open hours.

Those interested in camping should contact park admin for camping fees and additional information. There is so much to discover in the Mayflower Bocawina National Park that many will want to spend more than a day. Bocawina Rainforest Resort and Adventures is located within the park, so visitors can explore and fill their days with adventure, then relax and enjoy comfortable lodging by night. The area has several lodges with a range of accommodations to cater to your budget, whether you prefer to stay in a deluxe suite or a more affordable Maya Room. Onsite at the park, enjoy varied menus inspired by “farm to table fresh” using fruit and vegetables grown on the property or sourced from local farmers.
